The old town district of Old Lyon, with its cobbled streets, old buildings and famous narrow traboules and passageways, is full of charm. And the many Lyon bouchons you come across add a lot to the atmosphere. Among them, Chez Chabert, on the banks of the Saône, is not to be missed. Before you enter, take a look at the slopes of the Croix-Rousse on the other side of the riverbank: it will be a good idea to take a walk after lunch.
Inside, the vaulted ceiling, busy decoration, wooden tables and chairs add to the warm and authentic atmosphere of Chez Chabert. There, as in any self-respecting bouchon, you will discover the specialties of Lyon: the andouillette sausage, pike quenelles or the famous cervelle de canut (silk worker's brains – not to worry, it is just a cheese-based dip!). To respect the tradition of the bouchon, accompany your meal with a glass of wine. Go for the Saint Joseph, a typical wine of the region, produced by an independent winemaker.
